MoU Signed Between Pink Ribbon Pakistan and CEMB, University of the Punjab
August 9, 2024— A significant milestone in breast cancer diagnosis and public health was achieved today as Pink Ribbon Pakistan and the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) at the University of the Punjab signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership aims to enhance breast cancer awareness and provide advanced, cost-effective genetic screening services to patients across Pakistan.
The Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) at the University of the Punjab is a leading research institute, known for its pioneering work in genetic diseases. The Centre has developed protocols for third-generation sequencing for breast cancer, making advanced genetic testing more accessible. Pink Ribbon Pakistan, dedicated to breast cancer awareness and treatment, provides free doctor consultations, clinical exams, and diagnostic screenings, all aimed at raising awareness and facilitating early diagnosis and comprehensive care for patients.
The signing ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, Prof. Dr. Khalid Mehmood, Director of CEMB, Prof. Moazur Rahman, and CEO of Pink Ribbon Pakistan, Mr. Omer Aftab. Senior Professor Dr. Muhammad Idrees, along with researchers from CEMB, were also present on the occasion, underscoring the importance of this collaborative effort.
The MoU outlines a collaborative effort to spread public awareness through joint seminars and facilitate breast cancer patients by providing access to affordable genetic screening for early diagnosis, as well as offering genetic counseling to patients and their families.
This partnership marks a significant step forward in the fight against breast cancer in Pakistan, combining cutting-edge research with public health initiatives to improve patient outcomes and save lives.
