Funeral Prayers Held for Prof. Dr. Sheikh Riazuddin, the founding Director of CEMB
Lahore, August 13, 2024 – The funeral prayers of Prof. Dr. Sheikh Riazuddin, a towering figure in the field of molecular biology and revered as the “Father of Molecular Biology in Pakistan,” were held today at the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) greens.
A large number of students, present and former colleagues, researchers, and members of the scientific community, gathered to pay their last respects to the legendary scientist. Among the distinguished attendees were Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, Prof. Khalid Mehmood, Dean of Life Sciences, Prof. Fahim Aftab, Prof. Dr. Kauser Abdullah Malik, present Director of CEMB, Prof. Moazur Rahman, as well as former directors, present and former faculty members of CEMB. His mentees, students from all across Pakistan, also came to honor the profound impact Dr. Riazuddin had on their lives and careers.
Dr. Riazuddin’s contributions to molecular biology, especially in the areas of genetics and biotechnology, have left an indelible mark on the scientific landscape of Pakistan. He was instrumental in setting up key research facilities and mentoring a generation of scientists who continue to contribute to the field.
As the community came together to bid farewell to this extraordinary individual, his legacy as a pioneer, mentor, and visionary will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations.
