CONDOLENCE REFERENCE HELD FOR LATE PROFESSOR S. RIAZUDDIN, FOUNDING DIRECTOR CEMB
August 22, 2024 – A solemn condolence reference was held today in the Riazuddin Auditorium at the CEMB: Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology, University of the Punjab, to honor the memory of the late Professor S. Riazuddin, the founding director of CEMB. The event saw a gathering of his family members, esteemed colleagues, friends, and students who paid tribute to the distinguished scientist and educator.
The event was graced by the presence of several notable figures, including the Director of CEMB, Professor Moazur Rahman, Professor Javed Akram, former Provincial Minister for Health Punjab, Professor Dr. Moazzam Tarar, Founding Director of the Jinnah Burn & Reconstructive Surgery Center Lahore, Dr. Yawar Sajjad, Executive Director of the Jinnah Burn & Reconstructive Surgery Center Lahore, Professor Dr. Shahid Baig, former Chairman of the Pakistan Science Foundation and Dean of Life Sciences at the Health Services Academy Islamabad, Professor Dr. Rehan Sadiq Sheikh, Director of CAMB, and Professor Dr. Zaheeruddin Aqil Qazi.
Former Directors of CEMB, including Professor Tayyab Husnain, Professor Ahmed Ali Shahid, Professor Kausar Malik, as well as retired Professor Idrees Ahmed Nasir, were also in attendance, along with retired colleagues, current CEMB faculty members, and both present and past students.
The event also included online participation from prominent international figures such as Professor Hans Bokhoven from the University Medical Centre in the Netherlands, Dr. Tauseef Butt from Progenra, USA, and many former students who shared their memories and tributes.
A special Dua-e-Maghfirat was offered for the late Professor Riazuddin. The event also featured a touching video that chronicled his life and contributions, reflecting on his remarkable journey and enduring legacy in the field of molecular biology.
