June 8, 2026–The Director of the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Prof. Dr. Moazur Rahman hosted a high-level meeting with distinguished stakeholders, including Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Dr. Qamar Shakeel and Dr. Muhammad Asim, Members of the National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority (NSDRA), Dr. Amir Rasool, Director General Pest Warning, and Mr. Ahsan Mustafa Bajwa, an independent entrepreneur. The meeting focused on strategic discussions regarding the National Seed Policy and the National Agricultural Biotechnology Policy, emphasizing their role in strengthening Pakistan’s agricultural sector.
During the deliberations, participants highlighted the urgent need to accelerate the adoption and commercialization of climate-resilient genetically modified (GM) crops to address emerging challenges posed by climate change, insect pests and weeds pressures, and food security concerns. The all dignitaries agreed that modern agricultural biotechnologies, supported by effective regulatory frameworks and science-based policies, are essential for enhancing crop productivity, ensuring sustainable agricultural growth, and safeguarding national food security in the years ahead.
