COMSTECH Coordinator General Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhary Visits CEMB-PU, Reviews Genome Editing Training Outcomes and Research Collaboration
October 7, 2026—Coordinator General COMSTECH, Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhary (HI, SI, TI), visited the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Lahore, where he held a detailed meeting with Director CEMB Prof. Dr. Moazur Rahman and researchers.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhary was briefed on the key outcomes of the international training programme, “Enhancing Genome Editing and Crop Biotechnology Capacity for Climate-Resilient Agriculture in OIC Countries,” held from 22–25 September 2026 at CEMB, in partnership with COMCEC, COMSTECH and SESRIC.
The programme strengthened participants’ practical understanding of crop genome editing and CRISPR-based technologies, while promoting interaction and networking among researchers from OIC countries. It also enhanced awareness of biosafety and responsible technology application and opened avenues for future joint research, knowledge exchange, and institutional collaboration. Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhary appreciated the outcomes of the training programme and acknowledged the efforts of the CEMB organizing team in successfully conducting the international training.
During his visit, he also interacted with Dr. Ulkar İbrahimova from Azerbaijan and Dr. Sadia Hoque Tamanna from Bangladesh, who are currently undertaking two-month COMSTECH fellowship programmes at CEMB.
The COMSTECH Coordinator General also held detailed discussions on projects related to stem cell research and genetic disease diagnostics under the IsDB Reverse Linkage Programme, supported under the umbrella of the Islamic Development Bank Solidarity Fund.
